Bilberries (standardized to contain 36% anthocyanosides) are thought to curb inflammation and protect against diseases associated with oxidative stress, such as inflammatory bowel disease, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Used in herbal medicine to help slow the progression of disorders of the eye, such as diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy, and macular degeneration. They are also used to help relieve symptoms of diabetics and non-complicated chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), such as sensation of swelling, heaviness and tingling of the legs.
